Now that you work for Microsoft, is Indy dead?
For some reason people think that now that I work for Microsoft that I have to leave the Indy Project because its open source or because its Delphi. Others think that there is now some covert plan for me to stay on, but slowly kill it from the inside. The first reaction is undersandable, but untrue. The second one is absurd.
Since when do you work for Microsoft???
I joined Microsoft in late September 2005. For more details see my recent
tech blog entry, Yes I really do work for Microsoft.
Microsoft's Position on Open Source
Microsoft in my opinion is not conveying its position on open source
properly. Much of this I think is caused by the misunderstanding of exactly
what open source is by many of those in Microsoft. I will be blogging on this in
the near future on my
MSDN blog. For now let me say that Microsoft is not against all open
source, especially community based efforts such as Indy. In fact Microsoft has
similar projects but they often use the words "Shared Source" or "Community
Source".
Indy will continue
Indy will continue as before, in fact I expect it to become a bit more
active. Even if I left the Indy project there is a very large and active team
behind Indy that is fully capable of operating and proceeding without
me.
